A habit is a behavioural trait that is learnt or done frequently e.g. putting on shoes, washing hands, handshakes etc. until it becomes an automatic behavioral response/action, initiated by a particular stimulus or trigger, that we do without thinking.
A habit can be deemed to be good, bad or neither. But one thing is certain, just as a habit is a learnt behaviour, it can also be unlearnt.
An addiction is an extreme version of a habit, whether good or bad, and where our lives revolve around us servicing that extreme habit. For instance, cleanliness is a good habit but taken to an extreme, it can become a nightmare in the form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). An example of a bad habit could be excessive drinking, which, when taken to an extreme, can evolve into compulsive drinking and alcoholism.
Traditional and Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy is highly effective in helping you eliminate a variety of bad habits and addictions, helping to initially weaken your dependence on them and eventually remove them completely or transform them into good habits.
